Congressional Individualism, 1935

Lobbyists have been sticking their fingers into politics longer than Monsanto has been making things go their way. I couldn't quite narrow down who the hoop-jumper is, although he looks somewhat like FDR -- who was the 1935 president that he's refusing to listen to.   The politics of the time -- with Republicans being the progressive anti-war party -- don't mirror today, but one thing that hasn't changed is the amount of influence that lobbyists and demagogues hold over adamantly independent politicians.   This cartoon was by "Herblock", a prolific cartoonist otherwise known to his friends as Herbert Block.
